Thanks for asking a good question Kimberly. We do exactly the same thing. (And thanks Mark and Dave for good answers). I assume that since COPY and PASTE currently produce the same results, the changes will be included in those actions. If not, can they? In the meantime, I was trying to set up the user action to do it. I couldn't find variables for library/file/member of a COPY action. Are they there and I'm missing them? thanks Mark Dame mark.dame@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx |---------+----------------------------> | | "Mark Phippard" | | | <MarkP@softlandin| | | g.com> | | | Sent by: | | | wdsci-l-bounces@m| | | idrange.com | | | | | | | | | 11/21/2003 11:31 | | | AM | | | Please respond to| | | Websphere | | | Development | | | Studio Client for| | | iSeries | | | | |---------+----------------------------> >------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| | | | To: Websphere Development Studio Client for iSeries <wdsci-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> | | cc: | | Subject: Re: [WDSCI-L] RE: Having problems copying Source file to a library where the source already exists | >------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------| I believe he was referring to the proposed change you suggested. There isn't anyway a user action can do anything but run the command you specify. When I create the User Action? Or on a warning message? Admittedly this is the first time I've used User Action so I might be missing it. Currently, when I run the command, and there is a source member in the library I'm copying to with the same name, I don't get a warning. It just overwrites it automatically. Kim Stewart Kimberley, you will have a choice, like a couple of radio buttons, to either overwrite the existing one or specifying a new name. Dave Cheng, 905-413-4063 cheng@xxxxxxxxxx >>> Kimberley Stewart 2003/11/21 10:13:02 >>> Thanks for the information Mark, that did work for me and thanks Dave for looking into providing a way to overwrite. I may be asking too much here.. but is there a way to have that same command run and if a source member is found in the library with a similar name, to put up a warning that a member already exists and are we sure we want to delete? For the most part we do want to delete but if our fingers happen to go to quickly, I want to make sure we don't overwrite something without first being warned. Kim How about if you defined the CPYSRCF command as a user action? It seems like something like this would work: CPYSRCF FROMFILE(&L/&F) TOFILE(&L/OLDSRC) FROMMBR(&N) TOMBR(*FROMMBR) MBROPT(*REPLACE) Mark >>> Kimberley Stewart 2003/11/21 08:40:57 >>> Our process, when we make changes to any source file, is to copy the original source file to OLDSRC. In OLDSRC there may be older copies of this same source. I still want to copy into this library and just have it override the one that is already there. In a 5250 screen, this isn't a problem as I am simply asked that one already exists, do I want to override and I say Yes. When I choose Copy To.. in the Table View using the scenario above, it does not give me an option to override the original. Instead, a message comes up saying that a source already exists with that name and I need to give it a new name if I want to copy. We do this all the time so I need to be able to override files with same names. Is there a setting I need to change to allow this?
