I'd like to toss $.02 over the transom and onto the fire here, while I'm mixing metaphors, relative to the ctrl-space "lockup". On a number of occasions, I've experienced the same symptom, and have gotten used to taking a minute to go get a cup of coffee when it occurs. Without knowing (or particularly caring) about the specifics, I tend to write it off to a garbage collection process or some underlying "hard work" on the part of the Java code. Not to say that I haven't canceled out of it a time or two, but I've never been convinced it was a lockup.
