Sean,

There is an LPEX action findSelection which you can bind to an available key. For example, to use Ctrl+I:

"Window" -> "Preferences" -> "LPEX Editor" -> "User Key Actions" ->
  Key:    c-i
  Action: findSelection
-> "Set" -> "OK".

Now, when you select some text, Ctrl+I will take you to the next occurrence.

You're right, it makes sense that the previously-used settings for each edit view should be remembered (and also used by Ctrl+N, Ctrl+U). I'll look into it.
