And you know, looking at it, maybe that's what programming has become. Maybe programming as we did it in the 70's, 80's and even the 90's is now outdated. Perhaps there is no longer room for individual thinking and innovation. Maybe it's no longer a question of coming up with the best possible design, but instead about getting it out the door the as fast as possible. Maybe it's just about getting it done, rather than getting it done right. Maybe the quality of code is now measured by how closely it adheres to whatever arbitrary standards are in vogue at the time, and how easy it is for a programmer to do his or her job. If so, I am absolutely a dinosaur. Back then, programming was HARD, and it took really smart people, and we argued all the time, and we did great things. Maybe that's not the point anymore, I don't know. Joe
