For simple stuff the built in serialization works fine, but when you
need to do some mucking w/the data. :-) We ended up wanting to export an
object graph, but on import change many of the references to have new
ids since we're effectively doing a copy. However, the ids aren't
settable properties so that also caused problems. I'm sure we could have
done it with changes/extensions to the native XmlSerialzer, but it was
also simple enough to code stuff like
