When you upgrade to V6R1, program conversion is required. (Remember CISC
to RISC?) Conversion requires a program's creation data (observability).
All programs compiled for V5R1 or later automatically have creating data
saved during program creation. So either you have to have observability
or you have to have the source so you can recompile the program.

Because source for S/21 System Manager is not made available by Infor and
because the S/21 System Manager objects do not include the program's
creation data, you need to get a new object version from Infor. Thus the
dilemma for those who drop maintenance.

Thanks.

Alan,

What version of the System 21 software are you running?
We were under the same impression that System Manager would no longer work
if we had to upgrade to V6R1.

Thank you,
Suzanne Long

Subject: [SYSTEM21] System 21 Maintenance

For those of you that have dropped maintenance or are considering it:

What happens when you want to do a disaster test or worse yet have an
actual disaster where you need to restore to another iSeries, or you want
to move/upgrade to another iSeries system? System 21 will not work
without new authorization codes in these situations.

Has anyone, that does not have maintenance, received authorization codes
from Infor? If so, how much was the fee to get the codes?

Also, System 21 System Manager does not work with latest version of the
iSeries O/S, V6R1. If you don't have maintenance you are stuck at V5R4 and
sooner or later your other iSeries vendors will not support V5R4 and force
you to move to V6R1.

Has anyone gone back on maintenance as a result of this?

Please feel free to contact me outside of this forum.

Thank you,

Steve
