Hi Randy, we have done this a lot of ways so here is my suggestion on what I
think works best. Consignment is never pretty.
When shipped, the item is physically shipped using an ASN but the stock
quantity is simply moved (like a Single Step Stockroom transfer) into
another System 21 (consignment) stockroom specific to the customer. We
modified our shipping software (Future3/ARS) to do this for consignment
items.
Upon receipt of the 845 (or whatever usage notice), we invoice the customer
extracting the finished good from consignment stockroom but not generating
another ASN.
Your biggest challenge will be reconciling inventory! Your plant shipping
mistakes (improper setup), customer scrap and customer usage (not sending
you the right usages) will drive you crazy. Scrap will have to negotiated
and manually scrapped from the consignment stockroom (your fault) or Misc.
Invoiced for customer caused scrap.
We specifically used Future 3's "consignment invoice" functionality and
found it lacking in many areas even with modifications made. I would advise
against using it.

We are attempting to have orders placed into our system, when shipped,
would be consignment inventory to the customer. The inventory value needs
to stay in our system (this is still our inventory), when the customer
sells the product, we would then bill the customer for this product. Has
anyone done anything like this? If yes, how are you handling this?
Thanks.
