Yes, it would need to be deleted and recreated each time the date
changed. You could accomplish this by deleting the logical before
midnight and recreate it using todays date. It would then be set for the
next day. We created the logical in a cl and passed a parm for the new
date every time we ran the cl. We deleted the logical in the cl right
before we re-created it. You can pass a parm to the create logical. I
forget how we did it. Margaret

I'm pretty sure this solution would require the logical to be created
each time the date was changed. There still is select/omit but it is
static. If you changed this value each time and recreated the logical
with the new select/omit criteria this would work.

There used to be a select function in the dds for select/omit. That is
what I am talking about. Years ago we would create a logical file in a
cl
and pass it a parm to populate the select part of the dds. I don't have

access to how I did it but I can remember doing it. Margaret

Margaret,

I'm not sure I understand your solution. There is no "select" parm on
the
CRTLF command. He'd have to write a program that would generate DDS
source, that would accept the parm you suggest, and insert it into the
source, then run the CRTLF command over this generated source. Rob's
solution using OPNQRYF would work in concert with yours, since OPNQRYF
allows the selection criteria to be specified in the command. But, if
Jonathan is seeking a view that persists beyond the life of the CL
program, he couldn't use OPNQRYF.

If you are going to use CL to set up and run this job, there is another
way. You can create the logical file in the cl and pass it a parm for
the
select part of the logical file, and then delete the file when you get
done with it.
Thanks, Margaret

[SYSTEM21] Selecting a calculated date within a logical file.

Dear All,

Is it possible, and if so does anybody know how, to do a file selection
on
a date field within a logical file.

What I am trying to achieve is to set-up a logical that will only
pick-up
the previous days transactions.

TIA

Jon
