If you're going to make changes to any object I would suggest you place BOTH the modified Source and Object into a MODLIB... That way your original is preserved... No need to rename anything just add the MODLIB to the top of the production library list... Make sure you do not modify the library list for the "BLANK" environment code... Plus it makes it easier to keep track of which objects have been modified... Good mod marks within the source are always a good idea too... Be kind to the people who will come behind you... Also, if you do use a MODLIB and need to see the vanilla code displays you can use the AMT command and blank out the Environment code to use the vanilla library list which does not contain the MODLIB...

And, as long as you don't change the size or relative position of a field within the 5250 data buffer your RPG program should not require a recompile... So changing a field's attribute to hidden or protected should not require the RPG/CLP program to be recompiled...

One philosophical comment... Vanilla code is always easier to upgrade so if you have any plans of keeping up-to-date with the PTF's then the fewer the mods the better... Just something to think about...

You can make some minor changes to display files without causing
level checks after the display file is re-compiled and the Program is not.

It is not good practice to set programs etc. to run level check = NO.

If you are using the JBA GUI interface there are features within the
interface to hide fields and manipulate screen action.

If you choose to change and re-compile your display files I recomend
that you rename the Current Object rather than have compile delete and
replace it. Then you will still have the display file at the matching
level of the program compile. Should testing fail you can rename original
display file back.
