Hi Bill, I forgot to mention that I use record level access to the file(s) So using : recordset index bookmark index.getbookmark(key, ad400SeekFirstEQ) recordset.move -1, bookmark This is done to get the record previous to the bookmarked in the logical. Hope this makes some sense :-) As I use record level access , I dont use SQL statements I did try to use : cn.IsolationLevel = adXactChaos but this doesn't seem to work. Am I on the right track with this IsolationLevel stuff ?? Also tried : cm_SLP05.CommandText = "LIB/CUSNAMES (*FIRST, *NONE)" In my opinion the *NONE in there should prevent me from getting the journal error message Regards, Roland ----- Original Message ----- From: Bill Pinnington To: 'System 21 Users' Sent: Wednesday, September 10, 2003 12:15 PM Subject: RE: [SYSTEM21] Excel VBA and Journals Roland, Not come across this exact problem, but... Make sure that your connection type in your ODBC is set to Read-Only (Select statements only). By default it is set to Read-Write (all SQL statements allowed). I know from previous experience that this setting does affect the way tables handled and locked. If you use the default read-write, you lock your tables even when performing a read only process. The error may be a result of you locking the table during your read operation Let me know how you get on. Hi All, I'm trying to use Excel (VBA) to read data from S21 files (like SLP05) Ofcourse started with some files in our test envoirement. Although I only want to READ records, it keeps on naging me with a message : Error -2147467259 (80005005) while executing: CPF4328 : section SLP05 not in journal *N OK, after creating a journal and journal reciever this problem is solved. Only problem is : I do *not* want to create journal and journal recievers because : - I do read only actions - No commitment control required - I do not want those enormous journals Anyone knows how in VBA to read files without the need of journaling ? add. info : OS : V5R1M0 VBA : I use Provider=IBMDA400 and a mix of ADODB and AD400 connections / recordsets / Indexes / commands Regards, Roland _______________________________________________ This is the System 21 Users (SYSTEM21) mailing list To post a message email: SYSTEM21@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/system21 or email: SYSTEM21-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/system21. ________________________________________________________________________ This e-mail has been scanned for all viruses by Star Internet.
