Back in November of 2002 we called IBM under our Software Support agreement and complained to them that we wanted BRMS to jump to the next tape when we get a media error... We spoke to a person there who was quite helpful... (Please contact me privately if you need a contact name) She said we could fill out a form called "Request for Design Change"... Technical Document Number: 5314847 So that way we could have a chance of influencing the development team if they ever issue any enhancements to BRMS... Now you did not say you were using BRMS but the same problem would seem to apply at the OS level if you're just using SAVLIB(*ALLUSR) which is basically what we do inside of BRMS... Logistically, jumping to the next tape would be quite difficult to accomplish... The integrity of your backup would be compromised... I don't think the OS can handle this trick yet... We filled out the form anyway... In my mind, it's kind of like a message in a bottle you throw into the ocean though... I'll be very surprised if anything ever comes of this request... "Heffner, Art" <aheffner@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> on 02/20/2003 01:59:09 PM Please respond to "GEAC/JBA System 21 Users" <jbausers-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> To: jbausers <jbausers-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc: (bcc: Jeff Klipa/Harvard) Subject [SYS21] FW: Media errors on Magstar tape : backup We do an unattended backup nightly using SAVLIB(*ALLUSR) to a 3570 Magstar tape drive. Every once in a while we get error message CPF5349 Media error on volume tapnn on device TAP02. Since we MONMSG CPF0000 this ends our backup. I would like to be able to monitor for CPF5349, unload the bad tape and continue on with the backup using the next tape in the library. Anyone have a great idea how to accomplish this? (V4R4) Thanks in advance, Art Heffner Production Tool Supply _______________________________________________ This is the GEAC/JBA System 21 Users (JBAUSERS-L) mailing list To post a message email: JBAUSERS-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/jbausers-l or email: JBAUSERS-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/jbausers-l.
