Great question and a problem that most of us probably have to solve. We dealt with this by using non-stock item lines for freight charges instead of trailer charges. We also modified the system to not release these lines without an inventory item since we had problems with freight only invoices when the item was backorderd and/or constant maintenance required to change the delivery date on the freight line when the item did come into stock. For direct ship items, we modified the system to prompt for freight charges during PO receipt and create one-time trailer charges. Customers get irritated to receive multiple delivery charges when the reason for multiple deliveries is our stock out!
