Yeah, those darn programmers, they think they can hog the processor by compiling interactively and don't forget about those interactive queries over FLP008...!!! But seriously folks... There's a lot that goes into determining performance bottlenecks on any system... Is your system processor sized appropriately...? What O/S Version are you on... Do you have the latest cume tapes applied...? Do you have enough disk, ram, etc... How many users...? Is the problem happening at a certain time of day...? Who knows... You'd probably have to turn on Performance Monitor to pin the problem on any one source... If you notice the problem you can try to diagnose it real-time using WRKSYSACT to see which jobs are chewing up the processor... Don't leave this job running as it can degrade performance itself, so can WRKACTJOB... Other than interactive compiles, or queries I cannot think of anything your programmer might be doing that would degrade performance as dramatically as you are implying... Running STRPDM should not be a problem... Good luck... Since your mail reader does not understand this format, some or all of this message may not be legible. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] In the System21 Redbook I read a statement that said running a development environment on a production machine greatly affects performance. I have noticed that when our contract programmer goes to work (using Program Development Manager) users start complaining about menu response times. Can someone explain to me why this is and what, if anything, can be done about it?
