I just logged a problem with Answerlink with regards to the 1099 magnetic tape file for the IRS. We just finished ours and found a number of mistakes which could cause the IRS to reject our filling. The case number is 800354. Here is what I wrote: ---------------------------- Having just produced our 2001 1099 magnetic tape for the IRS I have a number of problems to report. 1. The "T" record did not contain the number of Payee records ("B" records) in the tape file. 2. The "A" record was missing the "Original File Ind" which needs to be a '1' to indicate that this is the first tape being submitted to the IRS, the Payer's phone number was blank (no place to put this information), and the field for the Payer's city also contained the state and zip information. In addition to these formatting issues I found that the tape file contained records for vendors that did not receive a 1099 (under IRS dollar limits for 1099 reporting). Plus, if you don't produce the actual 1099 forms at the same time that you produce the tape file, the totals on the "C" record are incorrect. ----------------------------- We are at SP2 and I downloaded the latest solution pack for the new 1099 forms. To fix the errors in the tape file I edited (DBU) files FLPWTX ("T" record) and FLPW6 ("A" record) to fix the missing and bad data. Then I cleared FLPW5 and copied the following files FLPWTX, FLPW6, FLPW7, FLPW8, and FLPW9 to FLPW5 (note: must be done in his exact order). The fix for the additional "B" records was done with a program change. If you don't have source code you will have to manually delete the records from FLPW7.
