We HAD Aldon CMS implemented here at Fossil for about a year, prior to our
recent system upgrade, and we're planning to bring it up again once our new
environment stabilizes. I'm a big fan of change management, and think most
companies would benefit from their implementation.

We did have a problem scenario with custom logical files over standard
physical files, when the files were in two different libraries. I was told
a more recent release of Aldon's software would handle this situation. We
had an Aldon consultant on site for two days to get everything set up, and
then probably spent another 2-3 man days tweaking issues that came up after
the initial setup.

Other than this, it worked fine for us once we got it up and running. The
source file situation can be resolved in CMS by specifying a list of
replacement libraries to look in to match up source to objects. We left all
non-modified object outside the control of CMS, and treated each newly
modified object by defining it to CMS at that time, and then copying the
source code over from it's standard library. The way CMS works is that all
objects that are required for compilation of objects (data files, copybooks,
DS definitions, etc.) are stored in one library, so you don't need to worry
about S/21's plethora of libraries and library lists.

We had three environments set up in CMS - Development, QA, and Production -
and we set them up to mirror our environments in System/21.

Please feel free to contact me if anyone needs more information.

Subject: JBA ML - Change Management

For customers with rights to GEAC source, I am curious to know if anyone
has
successfully implemented change management software.

We're in the early stages of a search, but have already seen the number of
GEAC
libraries eliminates some packages and will make configuration a challenge
regardless. Also I occasionally notice program objects compiled from PTF
libraries that we don't have. Although we do have (supposedly) the correct
source in the appropriate place, this would throw off any change management
system that relies on the object description to creates indexes.

Of course we try to avoid making changes to GEAC source, and most any
change
management software will work for our external modifications. Still it
would
be nice if we could find something also compatible with GEAC.

Thanks,
