We use the purge on a regular basis and have never had any
problems with it. If you have never run it, it could take a
long time though.

Personally, we see no reason to hold on to any data, because:

a) It's just a rehash of what's in SOP/IN and GL anyway
b) You can use the test run facility to 'regenerate' postings.
