  • Subject: System 21 Version 3.5.2 Service Pack 3

Good Monday morning to all.

Our company had the privilege of having Geac manufacturing consultant Paul
Bruninger at our manufacturing facility for a day last week to give us an
overview of moving from our current System 21 version 3.5.0 to version
3.5.2B Service Pack 3.

A couple of the key points and recommendations that may be of interest to
the group are listed below.

* He strongly recommended that we move to multi-plant because it is
difficult to do later and opens the door for future use. Don't think of
multi-plant as multi-plant. Think of is as another method of planning part
numbers. There is quite a bit of setup to do initially but he felt that the
time spent setting up and testing now would be well worth it in the long
run.

* Take a good look at using Vendor Scheduling. Most of the bugs have
been fixed and most of the future enhancements will occur in V.S. vs.
Purchasing. Fortunately we purchased VS some time ago but have not been
using it.

* Bill of Material audit files have been added. This is a good one.
They also added an inquiry "Route/Structures Audit" on the Production
Definition Enquiries & Reports menu (MDE).

* Test plain vanilla prior to implementing modifications to the test
environment to see if any modifications can be removed and to test new
features without mods. in place. We plan on doing this with only selected
mods. that we know we will move live. We also have some 3.5.1 "emergency
fixes" that were placed into our mods. library. We can confirm that these
can be removed by testing plain vanilla.

* Check all of the Alerts and MOPS's available from Geac. There a
many for Service Pack 3. These were previously located on the JBA customer
web site. I could not find them. If anyone knows how to get these on the
web please let me know.

Paul always gets us to re-look at how we currently use the software, how we
run our business, and presents us with ideas on how we might use the
software to better our business. It is money well spent.

I know that most of you are already a V3.5.1 or above so any additional
comments and/or recommendations about our move from the group would be
appreciated either through the group or personally to my E-Mail address
below.

Thanks--

Steve Prill
