I think you may have misunderstood. The field I am inquiring about is the description field not the part number. I fail to see any reason why this field (description) is shorter in Style than in base. Regards, Robert A. Rogerson I.S. Software Ltd. JBA Part description is a text description of the part id(PNUM35). Field PNUN35 in INP35 is 15 characters Long Field DSTL25 in APP25 can represent the whole part, or can be a piece of the part. For example if you use style color and size in your partnumber then PNUM35 = DSTL25 + DCOL25 + DSIZ25 for a value equal in length to the partnumber. The description merely describes the part for example: Partnumber PartDescription 100001 smelly sneakers cleaner( describes partnumber 100001) Hope this helps Melvin JOhnson >From: "Rob Rogerson" <rogerson@interlog.com> >Reply-To: JBAUSERS-L@midrange.com >To: "Paul Hardy" <phardy@mcc-net.com>, "JBAUSERS-L@midrange. com" ><JBAUSERS-L@midrange.com> >Subject: Style description 17 characters.... >Date: Thu, 16 Sep 1999 23:49:27 -0400 > >In style 3.5.1, the description field APP25/DSTL25 (Style description) is >only 17 characters.
