HI Jim, could you not add a field to the order entry trailer screen to 
create the pick note and pick list?  If this flag is set then submit these 
two jobs passing the order number through the LDA.  This would not require 
any modification to the pick note or pick list programs and only a minimal 
modification to the order entry program (sorry I don't know which order 
entry program you are using but I think they all have a trailer screen).
I'm not sure this is the answer you are looking for but...

Is there anyone out there who has modified the JBA System/21 pick note
print in an attempt to smooth the flow to distribution?

Right now, it is defined as a batch job that runs a query over the pick
note files INP56 & INP57.  You can select by stock room or by order number
range.  We would like to generate an INP56 and subsequent INP57 records for
each order as it is ready to go....
