>Thanks John. Then, if what you say is correct (rights stored on the user >profile), why do I still lose those rights when restoring a file in the same >library ? >Said differently, if we save a file on a tape, and then just restore this >same file on the original data, we still loose those rights. Do you restore the same file to the same library? Then you should not lose private authorities. If you restore the file to a different library, then you will lose private authorities. When you restore to a different library, OS/400 has no way of knowing that this is the same object. User profile PHIL knows it has *CHANGE rights to file PAYROLL/RATES, but when the RATES file (which carries no private authorities in it's object) is restored to library PAYTEST, how is user profile PHIL suppose to know it was restored? How is PHIL to even know that any object was ever restored? Authorization is resolved to an object in a library. If a copy of the object is put into a different library, you'll have to re establish authorities to the newly created object. jte -- John Earl - VP & CTO The Powertech Group 253-872-7788 johnearl@powertechgroup.com www.powertechgroup.com
