Hello Jack,

IBM's message has been consistent, and that message is consistent with what Andy Groves of Intel told us decades ago, and consistent with what we all know about our profession and the field we plow and harvest: Modernize. Reinvent yourself constantly.

That's what the boss of a company making money by selling faster processors tells you.

IT is a constant money making machine, because people like Andy tell us "that's the way it has to be". Change is enforced to keep the money flowing. That's the only reason whatsoever.

Look at the central server vs. intelligent workstation paradigm. How often have we been told that the opposite is now the new way to go? And as soon as you finished e. g. replacing PCs with thin clients, the industry e. g. creates advertisements about "the computer is now personal again" to sell more PCs. A ferris wheel of pseudo-invention. And when you look more closely at the next big hype thing, it often stunningly feels like something you've seen some years ago.

:wq! PoC
