It is BINDEC Alan and should be avoided like the plague. It has been deprecated in all but officialese.

It is simply the free-form definition for the old B data type which is a legacy from the days before RPG had real integer support.

It is horribly inefficient as the value is copied to a packed field before use, the operation performed, and the value copied back to binary form.
