General rule of thumb: don’t suppress system error handling unless you
fully implement the error handling yourself.

In the past I’ve seen similar situations where a developer coded a *pssr
subroutine that just seton LR and returned. No logging, no messages, just
exited.

Took forever to figure out why the program wasn’t doing what it was
supposed to do.

Before I programmed around it to gracefully send me a message it was waying

Your question prompted me to change my 'open(e)' to just an 'open'. Now I
see the error on the 'open'.
You are the man! It is saying a level check on the file myTable092. I
wonder what changed? I can research that, i.e. talk to the other
programmer.
Thanks for asking the correct question to help me find it.
