Subject: Re: equivalent data type for packed field in Display file

i am also trying to define my field directly for the screen like below only difference is i am defining like below without using EDTCDE-

A Fld1 2N O 7 39

But i don't see my field name 'FLD1' on the screen like above, whereas within the same DDS other fields which are defined using reffld and have some text under Functions their data is displayed as is on the screen.

So not sure how the field name could be displayed here if I am not using REFFLD and Functions.in the DDS of display file.

Thanks

Hi,

the first field "MANUAL" is decimal(5, 0) and directly defined on the
screen

the second field "DBREF" references a field in the Database which is
also decimal(5, 0)

Both have edtcde("Z") to suppress zeroes

Hope this helps!

so , i defined it with data type 'N' but when gave some name to
this field in DDS of display file then that name does not get
displayed on the screen i can see only once i put '?' just before
that field on the screen i mean once i do 17 then 12 against the
record format under which this field is being defined then i can see
the name of this field which i gave while designing it's DDS and can
also see it's length but unlike other fields names whose text is
defined inside the DDS of this display file under Functions.
i mean when i try to give some text for this field then i get this
error '"keyword 'whatever text name i give to this field' not valid
for this file type".

So how can I get the name displayed on the screen without putting '?'
for the field which I want to define in my DDS for this Display file?
Any examples please ?

Thanks

Hi,

What should be the equivalent data type selected in the display
file if
the
physical file's equivalent field is of packed data type with 0
decimal position?
