Well I guess there are other ways as well but ...

The manual even includes an example of how to handle that use case at
the end of the entry for %SPLIT.

In short, preprocess with %SCANRPL and postprocess with %TRIM.

It's not as nice as having the option to handle it all with %SPLIT,
but it's not really that painful either, especially compared to what
we had to do before %SPLIT.
