Subject: Clearing all fields of a record in preparation to write a new one

I'm trying to remember:

I have a scenario in which I will need to find the last customer number
in a file, increment that customer number, and then write a new record,
with initial values for only a few of the fields.

Is there an easy way, using traditional RPG scatter-gather I/O, to clear
out all the fields of the record?
