Update of a dataarea

I have a CLLE program (PgmA) that calls another CLLE program (PgmB) which
allocates a dataarea - ALCOBJ OBJ(dataarea *DTAARA *EXCLRD). PgmB is used
EVERYWHERE and cannot be changed.



PgmA then calls an RPGLE (PgmC) that needs to update the dataarea. If we do
an IN *LOCK in PgmC, we get an error - *LOCK for data area *LIBL/dataarea
was not granted (C G D F).



If we omit the *LOCK on the IN in PgmC, then the OUT used to update it
fails.



What am I missing?
