I am currently testing this, and is working so far:

D wMsg DS Inz
D wMsgKey SQLTYPE(BINARY:4)
D wMsgORD 10i 0
D wMsgTyp 13a
D wMsgDsc 110a

exec sql
select MESSAGE_KEY, Ordinal_position, Message_type,
substr(Message_text,1,110)
into :wMSG
from TABLE(QSYS2.JOBLOG_INFO('*'))
where MESSAGE_TYPE = 'COMPLETION'
ORDER BY ORDINAL_POSITION DESC
FETCH FIRST 1 ROWS ONLY;

QMHRMVPM( '*': 0: wMsgKey: '*BYKEY': APIErrorDS );

Initially, I was trying to just get the specific last completion message
key, and then return that back to my CL program that does misc clean up
after a menu option is completed (actually, first thing when a new menu
option is selected).
trying to get the message key returned back to the CL was proving too much
for my padawan skills.
So, I am just performing the remove message in the RPG program, and that
appears to be working.

Gerald,

Perhaps you need to cast it into to bit data to transfer byte for byte
without conversion:

select cast (MESSAGE_KEY as char(4) for bit data)
into :wMsgKey
from TABLE(QSYS2.JOBLOG_INFO('*'))
where MESSAGE_TYPE = 'COMPLETION' ...;

.. is it char(4) ?? can't remember...

doing something wrong.
using the TABLE(QSYS2.JOBLOG_INFO('*')) function.
I want to return the MESSAGE_KEY.

D wMsgKey s 4b 0
exec sql
select MESSAGE_KEY into :wMsgKey
from TABLE(QSYS2.JOBLOG_INFO('*'))
where MESSAGE_TYPE = 'COMPLETION'
ORDER BY ORDINAL_POSITION DESC
FETCH FIRST 1 ROWS ONLY;

on compile I get : SQL0303 Variable WMSGKEY not compatible or value too
long.
