In sql for db2 i do this:

create or replace variable g_true numeric(1, 0);
create or replace variable g_false numeric(1, 0);
create or replace variable line varchar(1000) ;

--inicialization
set g_true = -1;
set g_false = -2;

--Create jSon
set line = (SELECT JSON_OBJECT ( key 'valid' value g_true
,key 'expired' value g_false
format json )
from SYSIBM . SYSDUMMY1 ) ;

--select line from sysibm . sysdummy1;

--replace booleans
SET LINE = REPLACE ( LINE , -1 , 'true' ) ;
SET LINE = REPLACE ( LINE , -2 , 'false' ) ;

--select line from sysibm . sysdummy1;

this code should be converted to rpg.
