The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

I would make the case for focusing for filtering over
single-page-cuz-it's-not-staler:
* when one filters one can get relevant results quicker (usually 3 or
4 typed characters gets what a user wants)
* one can filter on partial words; it does not rely on
alphabetic/numeric order
* One can get non-contiguous rows that meet the filter (for instance,
all the companies in a specific ZIP code)
* refilling the subfile on every filter change will keep staleness at bay
* filtering allows grouping and sub grouping so drill-downs can be
designed with fewer steps
* filtering with SQL allows unique combinations of "order by" and
"where" without creating a long list of logical files.

Whilst this technique may entail more programming for Page Up/Down, it does mean the data presented is never "stale" by more than 1-page, (i.e. continually refreshed as paging occurs).
One of the more important points (for me) when considering Subfiles.
