Hello,
on some occasions, I've come across the following scenario again and again:
I READE a keyed file and eventually hit EOF (because no more records with the given key are available).
The ILE RPG Reference states: "If a READE operation is not successful, you must reposition the file: for example, using a CHAIN, SETGT, or SETLL operation." (aka, the same as with a plain READ).
For a normal READ, I'll do a SETGT to *HIVAL and can READP from there in a backwards order. However, I have no idea how to achieve the same with READPE: I don't know how to tell SETGT to position on the last record before EOF considering a given key value.
So far, I managed to change the basic program logic and database files to omit READE but eventually I'll come across such a scenario where this might not be possible.
Ideas welcome. But please refrain from comments like "use SQL". :-) Thanks!
