The main advantages (?) of a PLIST over in-line PARM statements are
indeed conciseness and consistency of fixed-format coding.
If a particular program is being CALLed from multiple locations in the
calling program, then it kinda makes sense to have a single, consistent
call interface (PLIST). Rather like the DCL-PR does today.
Of course, the downside is having to hop around the code to link the
PLIST and the CALL statement.
As others have indicated, the CALL/PARM/PLIST combo is obsolete these days.
