As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.
If you know of an easy to use, open source, search engine ... please contact support@midrange.com.

Don't want to do it from a spoolfile (we are trying to eliminate them), but directly from RPG...

If you want to convert a spool file to PDF

CPYSPLF FILE(MYSPOOLFILE) TOFILE(*TOSTMF) +
SPLNBR(*LAST) +
TOSTMF('/MyFolder/MYPDFFILE.pdf') WSCST(*PDF) +
STMFOPT(*REPLACE)

be aware that WSCST(*PDF) keyword is important.
