See, but then they float right and left in the source code.  Not insurmountable, but problematic.  But yes, I can do mod marks as long as I:

1. Live with them getting shifted when code gets indented
2. Work around the problems with actual trailing comments

doSomething(with: a: variable);  // This uses does something with a variable // JP01A

I find it to be a readability issue.

So I should will amend my initial statement: With "non-full" free I can use either Git or traditional mod marks, while with fully free I cannot.  And that's a highly subjective test, and one where I may change my mind.  Or at my advanced age, I may not.  :)

Not really. You can use Git on "non-full" free. You can even use it on
RPG III if you want.

But there's a very specific functional divide between mod-marked code
and using a diff engine, and I prefer mod marks.

With full free I don't have the option.

Sure you do. In fully-free RPG you just have the mod marks on the
right instead of on the left. On teh right, of course, they have to be
explicit comments but that works just fine.

Dave Clark
