I interviewed with an outfit that was still using RPG III because nobody
knew that you could just run the code through the translator and recompile
as RPG IV.

Their main programmer had dropped dead and they were trying to replace her
but nobody bothers to show up to interview. Man, it gets bad out there.

The reality is the clients of mine are still an rpg/400 site and not even
an RPGLE or RDi shop by a long shot.

Immediately after the F-spec, use the RPG prompt “IFC” to rename the
format.

Well that's pretty much identical to RPG400 so my position doesn't
change.

RPG400 was just RPG III with a few very minor changes and there is zero
reason to keep it.

Subject: Re: How do I rename a record format in a RPG III program?

The simple answer is to convert it to RPGIV and use Rename.

Is that not on option? Why would you keep it in RPG III?

Regardless the RENAME keyword on the F-spec continuation line is
probably what you need. But since RPG400 can use 10 character record
names
I'm having problems understanding why this is an issue. If the table was
created with SQL it will have short names for everything anyway.
