Darryl, are you talking about long table names, not format names? I thought format names were limited to 10, as Jon suggests.

But isn't the rename in RPGIII in an FK (I think) continuation format source record?

Here's an example -

FMT **  ...+... 1 ...+... 2 ...+... 3 ...+... 4 ...+... 5 ...+... 6 ...+... 7
0048.00      FCKEMPEFFIF  E           K        DISK

Regardless the RENAME keyword on the F-spec continuation line is probably what you need. But since RPG400 can use 10 character record names I'm having problems understanding why this is an issue. If the table was created with SQL it will have short names for everything anyway.
