For those like me who can't do this in Excel ... If you have RDi its XML features will show the structure as well.

I found it very helpful in understanding the structure of the XML and the relationships. Once I constructed the data structure to what the Excel revealed, it worked. Just thought I would suggest this as a tool to help construct the data structures for the XML-INTO op code.

In Windows, I often open XML files with the so-called XML Editor - it actually looks like Internet Explorer - and I have never been able to edit with it.

But it opens the XML with the outlining and all.

MS also has XML Notepad that is free and works quite nicely - you can switch tabs between the source and the tree view.

Now I need to try out the Excel thing!! Modern Excel XLSX files are a zipped archive of XML files, maybe Excel can get over-zealous and try to make the XML into a spreadsheet!

Thanks
Vern

Jon,

I'm using Office 365 as well. So I don't know why you don't.

Thanks,

Marvin

What version of XML Marvin?

I just tried it with the Office 365 version and it didn't offer any choices - just opened it as if it were a spreadsheet.

While I was working on trying to write an RPG program to use the XML-INTO op code, I found that Excel has an way of reading an XML file the will show the structure and the relationships. It was a great help in setting up the data structure.

Start Excel and browse to the XML file. When Excel begins to read the file, it will ask how to read the file with 3 options. 1. As an XML table, 2. As a read only workbook and 3. Use the XML Source Task pane. Use option 3 and on the right hand side of your screen will be the structure in relationship. This will make designing and naming the data structures much easier.

Let me know how it works for you.

Thanks,

Marvin
