In case it wasn't clear, it should be noted that the Java, Python, and
PHP libraries are not merely "easier socket programming than doing it
in RPG" (which those languages *also* have). Rather, what I think Jon
is talking about are libraries *specifically for Modbus*, meaning the
tedium and scaffolding required to implement the Modbus protocol
itself are reduced to near zero, and you just have to worry about
getting the *usable data* (a.k.a. "payload"). So, these libraries
allow you to program at the highest possible level, with the least
amount of muss and fuss.
