Actually it is a that was added way back in V4R2 I think. So some of what was written about at the time may have sunk along with the Penton web site. Only thing I can find from that era (and this was written in 2002 a while after V4R2 came out) is this one: http://ibmsystemsmag.com/ibmi/developer/rpg/iseries-extra--goodbye,-indicators!

More recently I included some information, and in particular a comparison between using the regular indicators and the INDDS approach in this article: https://www.itjungle.com/2012/09/19/fhg091912-story01/

I have actually just re-done this one as part of the Guru "Classics" series but it hasn't been published yet. Major difference was that the new version uses dcl- rather than D specs.

Hope this helps.

Jon,

Thank you for that explanation. I am in the same boat as the previous poster
as this is new to me. Can you point us to an article that explains this in
more detail. I get the value from you explanation, I just want to get a
better understanding.

That the best approach when designing a new app. But if you are dealing with
an existing app then, unless the display file was created with INDARA
specified (and most were not), you've also go to consider changing the
display file and checking the program to make sure there is no impact when
switching to INDARA.

The other issue with using INDDS is that it does not map to the regular *IN
indicators and therefor any O-spec output - of which sadly there is far too
much - cannot share the display indictors thereby requiring additional logic
to copy any common indicators.
