Why not have IBM add an ON-ENTRY opcode and be done with it?
Not the same thing. ON-EXIT is at the procedure level -- not at
the service program level. A service program has no entry point so an
ON-ENTRY opcode would have no anchor point at the service program level
either. The entry point for a service procedure is not an entry point for
the service program. In effect, a service program has no executable code.
It is simply a collection of service procedures that can each be
externally referenced for individual execution.
