What is a service program? Is that a program that interfaces between the web and the
AS400? As in the AS400 calls the service program which writes the data to the web,
receives it back and passes it back to the awaiting AS400 program?

If, in the end, if you are going to be delivering a web services json product you might consider using the IWS web services wizard, which does all the json work for you. Your task is only to write the service program, using data structures that you already use.
