I'm lost on what you doing with the CRTDUPOBJ and which LF you are using? We always just let the command create a file. DSPFD FILE(FILE1) TYPE(*BASATR) OUTPUT(*OUTFILE) OUTFILE(QTEMP/AFILE). Then process that file. Usually read the whole thing, but It would be easy enough to slice and dice records with sql.

Subject: Re: RPG UDDS Generic File Display/Update (CRTDUPOBJ)

Hi

To get the detail information about the files, I am using DSPFD DSPFFD DSPDBR to outfiles.
I know I can use APIs to retrieve the info into User Spaces, I have written and published some examples.
But it would be a big rewrite to convert the programs to use the API data, so I persevere the old way.

I used to be able to do CRTDUPOBJ from QSYS into QTEMP for the outfiles but it seems this is now locked down to secofr.
I dont want to use secofr owner programs. Is there a better way, I seem to recollect there was something?

So I created a temp file in QTEMP then used DSPFD DSPFFD DSPDBR it to make the outfiles.
I can do a CRTPF without a source but I also need a LF and I cant create a LF without source.
So I need access to a source file for the utility to work, I would prefer to not need a source file.
I set up a data area to soft code the name of the source file.

A consequence is that the code is version dependant, so I coded a make CL so I can quickly recompile everything.

Regards
Frank Kolmann
