If performance when inserting 20000 (or some other large volume) records is
an issue, you might consider using data queues. Your trigger program sends
the record to a data queue, and your data queue receiver program does the
actual processing.

(We went down this path, actually had it working. But then we started DR
replication, meaning journals, and we extracted our data from that.)
