Bryan,

I suspect the confusion came from a typo.  In the message Jon replied to, you said "were" externally described.

"real" was a poor choice of words.  I was trying to use:

SELECT * FROM Qsys2.Syspartitionstat WHERE
(Table_Schema = 'Library' AND TABLE_NAME = 'Filename')

to check for member change date/time, but a couple files did not show up.

found out when   I checked the DSPFD, it shows:
Externally described file . . . . . . . . . : No

since it isn't externally described, it won't show up in any of the SQL catalog tables, since it isn't a relational file. <IBM explanation>

There's (almost) no such thing as a not "real DB" file' Bryan.  The are still in the system tables surely?
