Thanks Alan but I am referring to the *data portion of the field.

Before I added the line;

%len(rJsonString) = 100000 ;

When I tried to put data into the filed I received an error that the
string exceeded the field size because the length was set to 1

The field in the database is as you have said 30000 + 2

The variable in the program is 100000 + 4

So before I modify the data portion of the field (rJsonString) I manually
set the length to it's maximum of 100000.

After I have built the string I set the length based on what is now in the
field.
