One quick comment Dan - replace all "bindec" with Int. Bindec is inefficient and deprecated sine the intro of ints. Please don't spread that old-fashioned nastiness any further.

Yeah, your 'no' confused me, but I understood what you were getting at.

For those interested, i got it all working, and posted it as my first
github project at:

Helpful criticism / advice welcomed.

BTW, I used the example code at
https://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1014013 to get started.
I changed the QC3HA to 1 and the hash code I got from that matched the hash
code from my program when the source member I tested had one line with
'123' left-justified.
