Which as long as PCML was generated could also be done by a pre-processor.

The real problem however lies in the fact that (other than the optional PCML) the system currently has no mechanism for storing such information.

Even PCML is limited to the types of data that can be represented in the JT/400 interface and omits several potential parameter types.

I think we need an RFE to request the functionality at a system level (including making descriptors fully operative) and then maybe we stand a chance on enabling the compilers to perform the check.

BUT - it would be a lot of work and therefore a lot of $s - do we really need IBM to be spending limited development resources in that area rather than other functionality?

is there an option to enforce prototypes for exported procedures on 7.1+?

Hi Thomas,

it wouldn't be too hard, to check this (and other things) in a preprocessor (plug-in), but the real gap to have consistence between caller and callee isn't closed by this. The real problem, needing enhancements is, to check the caller prototype against the procedure interface of the callee, as other non as400 compilers are doing.
