Hi,

is there an option to enforce prototypes for exported procedures on 7.1+?

At the weekend it happened that I had to figure out a parameter mismatch between the caller and the callee. It turned out that the copy book with the procedure prototype had not been included into the module that contains the procedure and that there was a parameter mismatch between the prototype and the procedure interface. I have never seen that since the days when procedures and prototypes had been introduced to RPG. But now, since 7.1, there is no need for prototyping procedures any longer and now such things can, actually will, happen.

At a first glance it is great that we do not need to prototype local procedures any longer. But for exported procedures it was better if the compiler would require a prototype. Otherwise we lose the benefit of validated procedures interfaces.

Thomas.
