Those first two bytes are call the "Byte Order Mark". Seems your
file is missing this byte order mark but the C routine is expecting one.
Sorry that I'm not familiar enough with using the C routine to tell you
what needs to be changed. The alternative is to create the file with a
byte order mark to get around the issue.
