Subject: Handling default fields on RPG WRITE

Assume you aren't using DDS but you're using DDL.
Let's say you have a column like any of the following:
- an identity column which is always generated
- a column which is generated with other defaults, like current user, last changed timestamp, etc How do you prevent RPG from overriding it with the values from your program?
Thoughts which immediately come to mind are:
- Stop using RPG WRITE and use SQL and select only the columns you don't want defaulted
- Use a logical for output which omits defaulted columns
- Use O specs. Do those still require you put column position?
- Is there a %FIELDS like UPDATE has?
